Online shopping makes comparison easier, but a polished listing is not proof of the seller, vehicle, or deal. Trust should come from verifiable identity, complete written terms, inspection access, and payment practices—not badges or urgency.

Verify the business and the vehicle

Confirm the dealer’s legal business name, physical address, phone number, and licensing through the relevant state authority. Be cautious when contact information, payment recipient, and advertised business do not match.

Ask for the VIN and use it to check recalls and obtain a history report. Compare the VIN across the listing, report, title paperwork, and vehicle itself.

  • Search the address independently
  • Call a published business number
  • Verify the VIN before sending money

Demand a complete price

Request the out-the-door price in writing, including dealer fees, installed products, taxes, title, registration, delivery, and any return or cancellation terms. Screenshots are useful, but the final contract controls.

Treat add-ons and financing as separate choices. A remote process should make the numbers easier to inspect, not hide them behind a payment.

  • Read delivery and damage-risk terms
  • Confirm deposit refundability
  • Compare APR and total of payments

Inspect before commitment

For a used vehicle, arrange an independent inspection. If the seller will not permit a reasonable inspection, consider another vehicle. A history report cannot show every current mechanical or safety issue.

If delivery is involved, document the condition immediately and follow the written process for reporting damage or discrepancies.

  • Use an independent inspector
  • Review the FTC Buyer’s Guide
  • Get every promise in writing

Use safe payment behavior

Do not send money because a seller creates artificial urgency. Verify wire instructions through a known phone number and understand who holds a deposit. Be wary of gift cards, cryptocurrency, or payment to an unrelated individual.

Jitcar displays dealer-feed inventory; availability and final terms still must be confirmed with the dealer.
